Dr. Koppula Prawan — Climate Tech & Nature-Based Solutions
Overview
Dr. Koppula Prawan is an environmental microbiologist and botanist specializing in nature-based solutions for climate resilience, soil health, and water remediation. His work bridges microbial biotechnology and environmental systems to develop scalable, low-cost technologies that address critical challenges such as water contamination, soil degradation, and climate adaptation.
With a Ph.D. in Botany from Osmania University, Dr. Pawan has led and contributed to international research initiatives, including an ASEAN–India collaboration focused on innovative solutions for groundwater remediation and environmental monitoring.
What He Works On
Dr. Prawan develops climate technologies that use natural biological systems to restore ecosystems and improve environmental resilience. His work focuses on combining microbial science with biochar and environmental monitoring systems to create practical, scalable solutions for real-world challenges.
Key Focus Areas
1- Soil & Biochar Systems
Enhancing soil health and carbon storage through biochar and microbial integration
2- Nature-Based Water Remediation
Removing contaminants such as fluoride, lead, and arsenic using microbial-biochar systems
3- Microbial Biotechnology
Developing plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPR) to support climate-resilient agriculture
4- Carbon Sequestration
Supporting carbon capture through soil regeneration and circular, nature-based systems
5- Sustainable Agriculture & Soil Health
Improving crop resilience and productivity through biological solutions
Key Work & Projects
ASEAN–India Collaborative Project (CSIR-NGRI)
Developed a scalable system for groundwater defluoridation using nanoparticle-stimulated biochar and biogeophysical monitoring
Microbial Strain Development
Isolated and characterized multiple plant growth-promoting bacterial strains (Azotobacter), with several strains deposited in NCBI GenBank
Heavy Metal Remediation
Designed microbial-biochar systems to remove lead and arsenic from contaminated water and soil
Applied Environmental Research
Published research on sustainable agriculture, microbial systems, and environmental biotechnology in international journals
AI MRV Integration
Dr. Prawan’s work in soil systems and biochar-based carbon sequestration contributes to broader AI-powered Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) efforts. By enabling measurable improvements in soil health and carbon capture, his work supports real-time tracking and validation of environmental impact.
This integration allows nature-based solutions to be monitored, verified, and scaled with greater transparency — helping to strengthen climate outcomes and support data-driven decision-making.
Approach & Impact
Dr. Prawan’s work focuses on building nature-based, scalable solutions that address interconnected environmental challenges. By integrating microbial biotechnology with climate-focused applications, his approach enables:
- Clean water access in contaminated regions
- Improved soil health and agricultural productivity
- Increased carbon sequestration through natural systems
- Sustainable, low-cost alternatives to chemical-intensive methods
Collaboration & Opportunities
Dr. Prawan is actively engaged in global environmental and scientific networks, including the World Economic Forum and the International Water Resources Association. He is open to collaborations with research institutions, industry partners, and organizations working in climate tech, nature-based solutions, and environmental sustainability.

Growing our lovelier, greener, healthier, tastier local worlds is one action we are all making easier for each other, this day!
Attract pollinators. Save water. Plant native. Regenerate soil. Eat local. Grow great soil. Enhance local ecosystems. Green tomorrow. Appreciate blossoms. Rock your place.
Welcome to Delta Rising’s Resilience Nursery, a community-rooted growing project dedicated to nurturing healthy plants, nurturing ecosystems, and supporting resilient gardens across Orange County. We specialize in four categories: native, drought tolerant, pollinator friendly, and kitchen garden plants – grown organically (but not yet certified) and locally nurtured with care, knowledge, and experience by volunteers. These collections support gardeners searching for California native plants near me, drought-resistant plants in Orange County, pollinator plants for bees and butterflies, and organic edible garden starters.
Whether you’re a home gardener, a landscaper, a school garden coordinator, or someone looking to bring life into your outdoor space, our nursery exists to make resilient planting accessible, affordable, and meaningful. It’s a wonderful time of year to bring joy to others by nurturing blossoms, hummingbirds, and butterflies around your peeps as well.
Our Mission: Growing for Regeneration
Our Resilience Nursery is part of Delta Rising’s broader mission to cultivate landscapes and communities that thrive together.
Plants we grow support:
Local biodiversity
Pollinator pathways
Water-conserving xeriscapes
Soil restoration
Stronger food systems
When you buy from us, you’re not just purchasing a plant –
you’re investing in a healthier future, one thriving rootball at a time.
What You’ll Find in Our Nursery
We focus on four main plant collections – all available seasonally and lovingly grown:
- Native Plants
Support wildlife and California ecosystems with species adapted to our climate and soil.
Our native plants help restore habitat, conserve water, and create beautiful low-maintenance gardens.
Our nursery provides climate-adapted California native plants for sale, including hummingbird sage, ceanothus……..grown in Garden Grove.
- Drought-Tolerant Plants
Perfect for homeowners looking to conserve water without sacrificing beauty.
These plants thrive in heat, sun, and long dry spells.
Popular drought-tolerant plants we grow include jade, agave, jasmine, and Peruvian lilies -ideal for xeriscape and low-water gardens in California.
- Pollinator-Loving Plants
From butterflies to bees, our pollinator collection brings movement and life into your garden.
These plants are selected to support year-round nectar and habitat cycles.
Available pollinator plants include milkweed, borage, honeysuckle, Mexican sage, and other flowers that support bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds in Orange County.
- Kitchen Garden Favorites
Grow your own food with easy, beginner-friendly plants -herbs, greens, vegetables, and more.
Perfect for backyard gardens, patio planters, and community growing spaces.
